Leaving a Legacy Worth its Weight in Time

by Kathi the wingspouse

I was recently invited to a breakfast focusing on Creating a Legacy as an entrepreneur. I wasn’t sure what to expect (people are always trying to sell something these days) but I was intrigued by the prospect that business owners would invest time in the name of social conscience. I was curious who would show up, and if they would really be committed to investing time for the greater good.

It was an early meeting. I had to get up at 5:30am which would normally turn me off, but the idea of being a part of something positive was exciting. I got there in plenty of time to grab a coffee and look for familiar faces before the presentation began. Franz Kellermanns talked about how family priorities factor into family-owned businesses, and then networking followed. I listened as people interacted with a special kindness in their voices. There was an unspoken respect that lead to some great conversations. They valued that others in the room worked toward a Legacy of their own.

This just proves that not only is there a place in business for social conscience, but perhaps there is a hunger for it. Some professionals recognize the value of good character, and organizations like (The Legacy Centre) are bringing these folks together. Does character tip the scales when you’re deciding who to do business with? Do you ever discuss what kind of legacy you or your spouse want to leave or what character you want to be known for?
